Week 1B

In class we discussed different types of layouts including angled, horizontal and vertical to give some examples. Then we learn the part two of the glyph project which is to create 8 two-page spreads with our chosen glyph as the main imagery. Our spreads should be examples of principles of design like, symmetry, rhythm, color and scale.  The designs should have a connection with the glyph writeup and color should be kept at 1 to 3max.

Above are some of my in class sketches. I opted to work very small at first to figure out was visually appealing to me. This also allowed me to work fast. Since I stated in the writeup that my glyph's favorite color is purple I decided that would be the only other color I would use besides black and white. By the end of class I starred my favorite so I could make them on a larger scale.

I also worked on the computer a little just to see what my glyph would look like on different angles and multiplied so I could draw from it.

Week 1 Out of class- Glyph

When I was looking through glyphs, a quality that really caught my eye with this particular one was that it reminded me of a headdress or of a crown that women in power may wear, or the main dancer of a ballet.  I thought of it as very regal and important.  After taking it out of the glyphs palette and making it much larger, I saw all of the weight changes within each line. This was also something that I felt made it more visually interesting because if it was just clean cut lines, it would not have as much of a personality.

In my opinion, if this symbol were alive it would have a charismatic personality.  It would definitely be a female because I cannot un-see the tiara/headdress within the form of the glyph. She has an important air about her, she is in charge and she definitely knows it.  She stands tall in life and is a leader but can be a little overbearing at times, although everything she is doing she feels is for the good of the whole. She is a pretty talkative person and absolutely is an open book.  Anytime she comes up on your social media of choice, it will be something personal, dramatic, and “life changing” that you would probably never think of sharing.  She does speak knowledgeably and can be very polite but if she is ever corrected, it will surely lead to a large disagreement.

She is an only child in her family, so she receives any and all of the attention at home. This also makes her an independent person though because both of her parents work often. That may be why she is a leader and does not take direction or criticism well. Her favorite color is a deep royal purple.

In high school, she was, without a doubt, the queen bee of her social group. Always knowing what was happening everywhere, with everyone, at all times. She is one of those girls who feed off drama.  She is constantly changing her style to keep up with the times, so her clothes always emulate the latest trends. This can easily be explained by her weekend job at the local mall.

As she looks into her college education and deciding a major, she is looking at two different paths. Her leadership and independence makes her lean towards a career in business but her fashion sense makes her want to work in fashion design.

Week 1A

Today we went over the syllabus and filled out the students form. The glyphs exercise was introduced , at least the first part and we spent class time looking for our glyph on In design and the internet. The glyph that I chose by the end of class is pictured below.
